Apparitions is a photographic exploration of reality, and photography's separation from it. Why do we assume that photographs represent reality? Do we still assume the representational qualities of the photograph if the image is distorted, layered, transformed, stitched together? More concerning, do we replace the real with the image? Do we understand reality at all anymore - or have we been consumed by the image, by ghostly traces of objects? The doll mimics the girl, yes - but does the girl mimic the doll?
Apparitions consists of gelatin silver photograms, created by layering transparency film, lace fabric, leaves, magazine images, ice cubes, plastic wrap, water, branches, and thread over light-sensitive paper in the darkroom.
